New Member Education Requirements

Sigma Beta Rho has a very strict and uniform expectation for New Member Education (NME) across our charters.

Below are the minimum requirements for NME to be approved/sanctioned:

  • Respective Sigma Beta Rho Charter, Associate Chapter, or Chapter is required to be recognized as a Greek Lettered Organization with respective university policies for Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL) requirements. In the event a respective institution is not recognized as part of the FSL/Greek Community, but rather is recognized as a Registered Student Organization, our local charter must have approval to operate by both the university and National Headquarters as a recognized establishment.
  • Respective Sigma Beta Rho Charter, Associate Chapter, or Chapter must be in Good Standing with both the respective university and National HQ
  • Respective Sigma Beta Rho Charter, Associate Chapter, or Chapter must meet financial dues obligation for the semester or have a financial agreement in place with the National HQ
  • Respective Sigma Beta Rho Charter, Associate Chapter, or Chapter must abide by eligible member requirements by both the respective university and National HQ to the greater extent to include
    • Year in Education (if First Semester or Freshman candidates are not eligible)
    • Respective GPA Requirement
    • Eligibility form for Potential New Members to be submitted to National HQ
  • Respective Sigma Beta Rho Charter, Associate Chapter, or Chapter must be Nationally Approved/Sanctioned to participate in NME through written approval by National HQ

Failure to meet any of the above requirements will prohibit a local charter to conduct NME. Identification of failure to meet requirements, start NME, or conduct NME without a nationally approved sanction is considered Unsanctioned NME, and is strictly prohibited by the organization. Identification of Unsanctioned NME will result in immediate Cease and Desist of the respective local charter by the National HQ Organization.

Transparency and Accountability of membership is vital to the sustained success of Greek Organizations. As such, Sigma Beta Rho, in effort of transparency and ensuring a productive membership environment, has made our National NME Education Program public as the guidelines and requirements of education requirements for members.
