NEW YORK, New York — The National Executive Board and the National Alumni Association Board of Sigma Beta Rho Fraternity, Inc. have appointed the organization’s first Board of Trustees. After weeks of deliberating, the members of the Board of Trustees were appointed on September 26, 2016 and all members accepted their appointments. The board consists of several fraternity and Greek Life leaders.
The members of the First Board of Trustees of Sigma Beta Rho Fraternity, Inc. are:
Hersh Malik and Jino George will be serving as non-voting Board of Trustees members as the National President and National Alumni Association President of Sigma Beta Rho respectively.
“I am proud to have this group of Greek Life leaders serve as our trustees, and we are sure that Sigma Beta Rho will benefit greatly from their wisdom and insight,” said Hersh Malik, National President of Sigma Beta Rho. The creation of the board of trustees was amended to the fraternity’s constitution on June 18, 2015. The purpose of the Board of Trustees is to have a committee of leaders who are dedicated to the implementation and oversight of Sigma Beta Rho’s long term vision and strategy.
ABOUT the Trustees
Mary Peterson has worked in the fraternal world for over 30 years as a Greek Advisor, Executive Director of Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity and Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, consultant to many National/International Fraternities and Advisor to NAPA. She earned her undergraduate and masters degree from the University of Iowa. Currently Mary lives in Iowa City, Ia with her husband Eric and dog Davey.
Saiful Khandker founded Sigma Beta Rho on August 16, 1996 at the University of Pennsylvania. Upon graduation, he served on the National Executive Board as the fraternity’s 1st National President. He has spent the last 18 years in the financial sector, holding leadership positions at multiple hedge funds. He is currently the Chief Technology Officer at Soroban Capital, a $9B AUM equity long/short fund in New York City.
Dev Parekh is an influential and high-energy leader with a career distinguished by successes in taking businesses to greater levels of operational and financial performance. He was named Chief Financial Officer for a two billion dollar division at the age of 32, the youngest in the firm’s history and more recently, served as the Chief Operating Officer for its fastest growing business unit. Dev is a CPA and received his B.S. in Accounting from Binghamton, where he also served as an original member and president of a Sigma Beta Rho, president of a large campus residential complex and the keynote speaker at that University’s graduation ceremony. He earned his executive MBA from Columbia Business School and was also elected and served as keynote speaker for that ceremony. Of all his achievements, he is most proud of being the father to two children, Ayana and Zalen.
Minh Tran graduated in 2005 from University of Washington (Iota Chapter), where joined Sigma Beta Rho as a junior in Fall of 2003. He graduated from Michigan State University College of Law in 2008. During law school, Minh served on various national positions including MIS committee, regional governor for the Western Region, and J-Board. He also assisted in crossing the founding class at Michigan State University colony. After leaving a large law firm, Minh partnered up with another lawyer to open a boutique law firm of five lawyers with a team of support staff. His clients included small businesses, consumers, and also a small Native American tribe in northern Washington.
Ari Stillman joined Sigma Beta Rho in the spring of 2005 at the Kappa Chapter (University of Rochester). After graduation, he served the fraternity for four years on the National Executive Board in the capacities of VP of Undergraduate Affairs, Executive VP, and President. He earned master’s degrees at Vanderbilt University and the University of Chicago before settling into his current role of Director of Research & Assessment for the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors.
Anish Bhatt joined Sigma Beta Rho in Fall of 2006 at the Georgia Institute of Technology. While pursuing his undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering, Anish held the Vice President of External Affairs for his chapter. Thereafter, he left to Silicon Valley, where he worked at Google (GOOGL) and Square (pre-IPO) before launching his own media company. Now, he balances his time between the startup and his current role at Apple as a product architect for Apple Pay.
Jino George is one of the founders of Temple University – Rho Chapter and a member since 2004. He has served on the National Executive Board from 2008-2011 as Vice President of Expansion and currently serves as President of the National Alumni Association. Jino graduated with a BBA from the Fox School of Business at Temple University and a MPA from the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) at Columbia University. Currently, Jino is an Assistant Director for the Accounting and Business Management team at Columbia University.
Hersh Malik graduated from Syracuse University in 2012. He is currently servicing his second term as National President for Sigma Beta Rho and previously served as National Executive Vice President, Vice President of Undergraduate Affairs, National Governor and Northern Regional Governor. Hersh currently works as a Project Manager for GroupM.
